Davide Coltro

Life, style & influence

Davide Coltro was born in Verona in 1967.
After reading the book “Being Digital” by Nicholas Negroponte, Davide Coltro is convinced that electronics can spark a revolution also in the art world.
He however reaffirms his identity as a painter. The digital technology simply brings about a tecnical evolution that gives the artist one more instrument to compose images, but the substance remains unchanged.
The series titled “Misteries” consists of pictures of people photographed from behind. His people, arranged on a vast black surface, exude both fragility and vulnerability. They seem to live on the edge of a thin surface and to get ready to cross it.
Inspired by the above mentioned series, he realizes videos that are shown at international art fairs.
The next phase sees Davide Coltro engaged in depicting landscape, the result of which is the production of a series titled “Medium Color Landscapes”. When the artist takes a picture, the colors he obtains always refer to nature. Using various colors present in the image as references and elaborating them on computer, Davide Coltro creates a color medium which becomes the dominant color of the artwork.
He has got a breakthrough in his research with a project titled “System”. Davide Coltro, through the invention of an “electronic painting”, discovers a new way to fathom the relationships between artists and art collectors.
The art collector receives, so to speak, an electronic canvas, a screen connected to the artist’s studio. The artist then sends the collector some images selected in advance by the collector himself. In so doing, the space between the creation of an artwork and its fruition is cancelled.
